Things To Do In Sydney During Your University Break

After a long term of studying, the uni break is nearly here! So what are you going to do with this well-deserved time off?

To help you decide, we’ve compiled the ultimate list of things to do in Sydney over the holidays:

1. Go sight-seeing
Sydney is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, St Mary’s Cathedral and Sydney Tower Eye (just to name a few!). So why not explore everything this sunny city has to offer?

The great thing about discovering the inner city of Sydney is everything is located within walking distance or you can simply catch one of the many trains that run on a regular basis from Central, Town Hall or Circular Quay.

2. Get back to nature
Being stuck in a class room or lecture hall all semester could mean it’s about time you got close to nature. With so many parks and gardens in and around Sydney, you shouldn’t have to venture far.

One of the better known parks is the Sydney Harbour National Park that weaves along the coast of Sydney Harbour and gives you a glimpse into Sydney’s past through the colonial buildings and old military posts that scatter the area. Other must-visit parks include the Royal Botanic Gardens, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and if you have a bit of time up your sleeve the Blue Mountains National Park.

3. Visit a local museum
Just because semester is over, doesn’t mean you should stop learning and with so many world-famous art galleries and museums like the National Maritime Museum, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia at your doorstep, your thirst for knowledge is sure to be fulfilled.

4. Take a ferry to the zoo
Get up close and see some of the native animals to Australia such as kangaroos, koalas and platypuses, as well as other international furry creatures at the world famous Taronga Zoo. If you are travelling from the city you can get one of the many ferries that depart daily to the zoo from Circular Quay or take a bus from North Sydney. Make a day of it and bring your uni friends too!

5. Enjoy a night at the theatre
When you first think of the Sydney Opera House you may just assume that it only hosts ballet and Phantom of the Opera, but there’s a lot more student friendly (and budget friendly) things to see like comedy acts and thought provoking talks at the Playhouse building. Two more noteworthy theatres in Sydney include the Capitol Theatre and Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace.
